The village of Cattistock lies in the heart of the Dorset countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Cattistock meets all the requirements of a classic village: a Post Office and village stores; a traditional pub (The Fox and Hounds) serving excellent food; and a most attractive church with an outstanding tower and William Morris window. If you’re looking for Dorset accommodation we also reckon that we have the best and most comfortable Bed and Breakfast in Fullers Earth.
Walking, riding, cycling, boating, swimming, fishing and golf are available locally as well as many gardens and historic houses. The ‘Jurassic’ coast is 20 minutes away. This is an elegant retreat in a beautiful part of the Dorset countryside – the ideal B&B for walkers, country lovers or for a romantic weekend break.
Our village pub was voted the Best Local Pub in Dorset in 2013. The emphasis is on “local” – it’s a proper village pub. This is the Fox’s third award in the past 5 years. It’s a great place for good pub food, excellent beer and really friendly clientele and staff. Perhaps best of all, it’s only 100 yards away up a private path through the paddock off the walled garden (or 300 yards round the road). Just let us know and we’ll book you in for supper.
For a village of less than 400 souls we don’t do badly for sport. The Cattistock Lawn Tennis Club is flourishing with two excellent grass courts just 200 yards from Fullers Earth. If you want a game let us know and we’ll see what we can do. The Cricket Club is well known in the County and hosts high quality matches on a very attractive site. We even have a Football Club and pretty good (if somewhat sloping) pitch to go with it. There’s something on in the Village Hall most evenings with badminton, short mat bowls and table tennis being particularly popular. They all welcome visitors, so do ask. And finally, the Pub has a strong skittle team and a quirky skittle alley to go with it which is available for fun play when there is no match scheduled.
